Retromania REVIEW

Rewind to the decade of massive mobile phones and even bigger shoulder pads with Endorphina's tribute to the 80s: Retromania.

Retromania is a five-reel, three-row online slot featuring up to nine paylines, which can be adjusted to suit your preferences.

Symbols include vinyl records, cameras, a telephone and the ubiquitous cassette tape. The only thing missing from the ‘80s love-in is the pencil which would inevitably be required to repair the cassette tape when the tape became jammed in the tape deck.

Revealing star symbols can trigger the free spin bonus, whilst players are invited to risk their winnings at every win in a game of chance.

Thanks to the Endorphina online slot demo feature, it is possible to play Retromania for free. This allows players to experience gameplay before risking any real currency on a spin of the reels.

Retromania THEME

Retromania is a slot about items and stuff from the 70s and 80s. You can feel retro vibes from its symbols, like vinyl, an old photo camera, audiotape, and so on. And, of course, you’ll hear a typical retro tune. Small aminations and contrast noises follow each win. The slot looks colorful to strengthen the retro effect. Only 9 symbols are present in the slot. All of them look authentic and colorful. Let’s start from regular elements and their payouts per coin value:

  • Vinyl: 2x, 3x, 10x
  • Camera roll: 3x, 5x, 20x
  • Audio tape: 5x, 10x, 50x
  • Photo camera: 10x, 30x, 100x
  • Old-fashioned phone: 20x, 50x, 200x
  • Radio: 30x, 100x, 500x
  • Typewriter: 200x, 1,000x, 5,000x

Bear in mind that the odds per overall bet depend on the number of active lines. Two special symbols are wild and a star. Wild symbols substitute all regular elements except the typewriter and can form their own winning lines (100x, 500x, 2,000x). At least 3 stars trigger the bonus game.

After each winning spin, you can press the card button on the control panel to enter the gamble round. You’ll see 5 cards. The 1st one is a dealer’s card, and it’s open. You can choose one of four cards left to reveal its value. If your card beats the dealer’s, you double your winnings; the opposite scenario means losing all your winnings. You can gamble up to 10 times in a single round. The RTP of the round is 84%. Paybacks depend on the dealer’s card:

  • 2 – 162%, 3 – 121%, 4 – 113%, 5 – 101%
  • 6, 7, and 8 – 100%
  • 9 – 92%, 10 – 78%, J – 69%, Q – 66%, K – 64%, A – 42%

Bonus game
Catch 3, 4, or 5 stars to activate the bonus game with 1, 2, or 3 rounds (lives), respectively. The bonus game occurs on a separate board. You’ll see a 3x1 reel in the center of this board and a rectangular perimeter of 26 positions. Press start and a highlighted frame will start moving. And if the frame stops on the symbol that matches the symbol from the reels, you’ll get a fixed prize. The size of the prize depends on matched symbol (prizes per overall bet):

  • Vinyl: 2x
  • Camera roll: 5x
  • Audio tape: 10x
  • Photo camera: 20x
  • Old-fashioned phone: 50x
  • Radio: 70x
  • Typewriter: 100x

If the frame stops on the corner (X), you’ll lose your “live”.

Bonus Pop
If you wish to launch Bonus Game and don’t want to wait for symbols to trigger it, then alternatively you can activate the Bonus Pop for a price of 19x, 37x or 56x your stake, depending on the option.

Retromania VERDICT

Retromania uses symbols from the age of analogue to bring this slots game to life. There are records, photo spools, typewriters, cassette tapes, transistor radios and more, to either remind you of the glory days or give you a glimpse into the past, depending on just how old and curmudgeonly you are. The game is seriously simple, offering little game play, with a design that fails to inspire. There are no animated sequences and the bonus round is a little on the drab side. The are no free spins but there are wilds and the game offers the usual Endorphina “Risk” option with every win. At 4%, the house edge is typical for an Endorphina game, but slightly more than what we would want to see.
