Golden Gods: Slot Overview

Golden Gods is an online slot from Max Win Gaming powered by the more experienced software provider Relax Gaming. When two studios work together, there is always a chance one rubs off on the other. Especially if one of the studios is a more established outfit that has found glory on numerous occasions in the past. So, it is in Golden Gods, which appears to have Relax Gaming's fingerprints all over it. Not so much at first, perhaps, but trigger its OP hold & win bonus game to experience a strong case of Money Train 2 déjà vu.

As mentioned, the comparisons between the two games aren't initially overt. We've seen our share of Central American slots, but Golden Gods vibrant home screen got the game off to a great start the moment it loaded. There a golden god statue stands beneath a stone archway holding two orbs looking enticingly exotic. Clicking play pulls you into a jungle scene decorated by bright green foliage and a massive step pyramid background. That might sound like a dozen other Aztec slots, or most of them, really. Yet, Golden Gods' pretty picture has a pleasant quality that gets even better once the action starts to cook.

Golden Gods' Central American trip is available on any device, where players may select stakes of 10 p/c to £/€15 per spin. Its RTP comes in two forms, both on the sunny side of average. One is a default value of 96.07% when playing the game normally; the other is 96.12% when buying the bonus round. Highly volatile, Golden Gods packs astonishing potential, even greater than the slot it was modelled on.

In the middle of the screen sits a game grid made up of 5 reels, 5 rows, offering 3,125 ways to land winning combinations across. Wins hit from left to right in any row, as long as symbols match and sit in adjacent reels. Ten pay symbols are used in Golden Gods. Six of them are 9-A card ranks worth 0.8 to 1.5x the bet for five of a kind, rising to 3x the bet for five of the blue, green, purple, and orange face premiums, or majors as they are called in Golden Gods.

Golden Gods: Slot Features

Relax Gaming has left wilds out, so the only other symbol is a golden bonus scatter, which triggers both of the features – Respins and the Bonus Round.

Respins Feature
When a winning combination of high pay majors lands at the same time as 1 or 2 scatters, the respin feature is triggered. When it is, the slot keeps spinning until a dead spin occurs.

Bonus Round
This feature is triggered when 3 or more scatter symbols are in view. The triggering scatters turn into sticky money symbols while all other symbols are removed from the reels - 6 spins are awarded where only money symbols or four feature symbols appear. When a money symbol hits, it locks in place, while sticky feature symbols award +3 spins and trigger a modifier. Here's extra detail about the symbols:

  • Regular symbol – carries a value of 2x to 8x the bet.
  • Gold symbol – has a value of 10x to 200x the bet and awards +2 free spins.
  • Itzamna – mirrors the value of a random symbol and adds it to all symbols.
  • Ix Chel – Either merges 2-4 cash symbols into one position by summing their values and multiplying the amount by its own multiplier. Or, turns one of the feature symbols golden, which means its effect triggers on every spin.
  • Kinich Ahau – sums the value of all symbols and collects them.
  • Chaac – Either selects up to 3 cash prizes and doubles their values up to 3 times each. Plus, there is a chance a cash prize is converted to a feature symbol. Or, a non-active feature symbol is reactivated.

The bonus round ends when spins are complete, or the game's significant win cap is reached.

Bonus Buy
If this option is available in your jurisdiction, you may buy entry to the bonus round for the cost of 150x their stake.

Golden Gods: Slot Verdict

If Golden Gods wasn't so closely related to the mega-hit Money Train 2, it could very well have been Max Win's breakout slot. Even so, Golden Gods possess the goods to get it noticed for all the right reasons. First off, it looks great; the colours have a vibrancy, starting with the golden-winged god of the home screen before launching into the partly cartoon partly realistically rendered jungle environment of the in-game screens. It's a bit like those golf games that look outrageously realistic on a PC. The individual reel-spinning action might be a little disconcerting at first, but you quickly acclimate yourself to them once you're in the swing of things.

Swing it does too, at least in the bonus game when things get more than a little Money Train 2, and you can see any influence Relax Gaming might have had during the design phase. Despite any potential collaboration, Golden Gods' bonus round doesn't have quite the same bazooka blast to the face effect as MT2's does. After all, there are just four special symbols, and none of them spray bullets like a Persistent Payer or electrify like a Necromancer, meaning Golden Gods had the less energetic of the two bonus rounds.

However, Golden Gods actually has a larger win figure, pipping its prototype by an extra 10k. As you might suspect, this aspect of Golden Gods is prominently displayed, so users know they are playing for the handsome sum of 60,000x their bet. Having such a close association with Relax Gaming helps legitimise that figure too, making it more real than if Relax Gaming was out on their own in the wild trying to make a name for themselves.

To sum up Golden Gods in a sentence, you'd have to say it's basically Money Train 2 with an Aztec twist. Its larger max win figure adds allure, but there is an arguably less exciting path to attaining it. Relatively speaking, that is, since hitting 60,000x on any game would get pretty much anyone's heart thumping.
