Vegas Night Life: Overview

Sitting in the ‘bling’ category, NetEnt's Vegas Night Life is one of those games rife with status symbols, dollar signs, and plenty of shiny expensive-looking items. The game has three jackpots, one of them progressive, while the other two are small consolation prizes. The other trio in the game are its features – the Cash Stacker where the jackpot can be won, as well as instant cash prizes, and free spins.

NetEnt has gone for the glitz look when designing Vegas Night Life. The 5-reel, 20-payline grid is surrounded by shimmering billboard-style lights, while the background is made up of landmarks of the Strip such as New York-New York and Paris Las Vegas. The action takes place at night; everything illuminated in light blues, purples, and pinks. The images used in the background are good, the reels though, not quite so enticing with their cheesy lux icons.

Players can have the Vegas experience on any device, picking stakes from 20 p/c to £/€100 per spin. The math model’s an odd one, at least it felt that way during testing. Wins were frequent, as were features – at one point there was a near back to back triggering of them. Despite the flurry of activity, the bankroll was on a persistent downward trend the whole time. However, the RTP is nicely average on 96%, while the game skims off 3.7% of every bet to feed the Mega Jackpot.

The symbols themselves are broken into two categories, low pay card suits (diamonds, hearts, spades, clubs), and high pay consumer goods. From low to high are champers, an emerald ring, a purple Rolex, and a sports car. This lot are worth 5 – 15 times the stake for a full line of five of a kind. The jazzy looking wild symbol holds the same value as the car, yet it can also substitute for any other symbols to help form a combination. Wilds land individually, or in full reel stacks.

Vegas Night Life: Features

Vegas Night Life’s main attraction is its progressive jackpot, but players get a few other features to keep them interested. These are Free Spins, the Cash Stacker, and an Instant Win.

All three features are accessed via the casino chip scatter which lands on any reel. When 3 scatters are in view, they transform into Pick Me symbols, where players choose one by clicking on it. The Pick Me symbol will then reveal one of the bonuses.

Possibly the least desirable is the Instant Win, though decent payouts are technically possible. When chosen, the Pick Me symbol flips to reveal a multiplier of 7.5 to 250 times the total bet. The win is multiplied by 2 once or twice if the feature was triggered by 4 or 5 scatters symbols.

Next is free spins, the number awarded depends on the number of scatters triggering the feature. So 3, 4, or 5 scatters in view are worth 5, 10, or 20 free spins respectively. During free spins, all bet line wins are multiplied by x3. It is not possible to retrigger free spins.

The last bonus is the Cash Stacker where the three jackpots may be won. During this game, which starts with 3 spins, the grid changes to a 5-6-7-6-5 layout, where only dollar sign symbols appear. Whenever a dollar sign lands, it falls to the lowest unoccupied position on the reels and resets spins back to three. Each dollar sign has a value of 0.25 to 15 times the bet.

When row 2, 3, 4, or 5 is filled, the values in these rows are multiplied by x2, x3, x4, or x5 respectively. Should reel 2 be filled then the 10x the bet Mini jackpot is won, or filling reel 4 awards 30x the stake from the Midi Jackpot.

The top prize, the Mega Jackpot is awarded when the 3rd reel is filled. The Mega Jackpot has a seed amount of €1,000 + 20% of the contributions from the bets. There is no limit imposed on how high it can go.

Vegas Night Life: Verdict

For a bit of a jackpot chase Vegas Night Life isn’t too bad. Yet judging its merits overall, Vegas Night Life isn’t hugely exciting. If this is what Vegas nightlife was all about it wouldn’t have turned into the Mecca for gamblers and hedonists it has. This is Vegas playing it safe, room service in front of the telly, watching the Bellagio water show a bit later before turning in early, to catch the tourist bus out to the Grand Canyon at 5am the following day. Visually it also rides a bit on the wave of NetEnt's other hugely successful jackpot slots Mega Fortune and Mega Fortune Dreams.

But that’s cool, that sounds like a sweet holiday, but it’s not exactly a thrill-seekers paradise where anything goes. No bacchanalian orgies, or Hunter S. Thompson bending reality to find out what lies behind reality’s curtain. This is a sanitised Vegas playing it safe.

Ok we jest, but for the most part, Vegas Night Life is pretty low key gaming. Scatters do turn up in threes a lot but usually result in a low instant cash prize a lot of the time. Free spins were like gold dust. That leaves the Cash Stacker feature which popped up fairly frequently too, but was hard to get decent returns out of. However, the progressive jackpots can build up on Vegas Night Life, since there are no set limits. You might want to be patient though since getting in early at the €1,000+ seed level isn’t quite so exciting.

To sum up, Vegas Night Life might not be the most exciting game, but there is a jackpot and its features provide a few thrills to keep the chase interesting, for a while at least.
