Divine Fortune Megaways: Slot Overview

During the time just before the Red Tiger acquisition, NetEnt was heavily into reskinning older games for the Asian market. The merger, however, allowed NetEnt to get their hands on a coveted Megaways license, now suddenly all of their older slots are fair game. The first to get the makeover was Twin Sin Megaways, a safe rehashed smash hit which got the ball rolling. They’ve now turned their attention to one of their most popular jackpot slots, Divine Fortune. The original, which was released in 2017, came with two fixed jackpots and a progressive that was capable of building up impressive 6 figure pots. Controversially, the Megaways version hacks off the progressive, offering three modest fixed prizes instead.

Visually, NetEnt has remained faithful to the original, propping the reels up with two female statues and providing a cloudy background for Pegasus to float around in. Aside from the jackpot alteration, not too many things have changed. Layout is one of the obvious causalities. NetEnt has swapped the 5x3 layout, for a 6 reel Megaways one, where 2-7 symbols land on each reel. The actual number of symbols changes on each spin, producing up to 117,649 ways to win.

The remake can be played on any device, offering stakes from 10 p/c to £/€100 per spin. As well as the jackpot drop, RTP has taken a hit, now weighing in at 96.06%, a fall of half a per cent. It's not a major concern though, and it's even possible that with the progressive contribution out of the way, there's not much of a real difference. Volatility remains around medium, providing quite regular wins, propped up by a respin feature, but balanced by low symbol values and an overwhelming number of 3 symbol wins.

As to symbols, most of them have stayed the same too. This means five low pay 10-A royals, backed by four premium symbols – birds, bulls, lions, and snaked-haired Medusa. Values range from 1.2 to 5 times the stake for combinations six symbols long, which is quite low for Megaways. All symbols need at least three of a kind to win; except Medusa, she needs only 2. Pegasus lends his majestic head to the wild, landing on all reels to replace any pay symbol. Each time the wild appears, certain features are triggered as you will see next.

Divine Fortune Megaways: Slot Features

Aside from the jackpot shakeup, most of the features remain true to the original. That includes Falling Wild Respins, Wild on Wilds, and free spins.

Whenever a wild symbol appears on the reels, the Falling Wild Respin feature is triggered after bet wins are paid. Falling Wilds drop one position, awarding a respin until they vanish off the reel entirely. Players are treated to one final respin when the Falling Wild has vanished.

Should a wild symbol land on a position occupied by a Falling Wild, the Wild on Wild feature is activated. Here, Pegasus expands to cover the entire reel creating a stack of wild symbols. These wilds also move down one position on each respin, until they fall from the grid. It is possible for more wilds to appear during the sequence, piling on more respins.

The hand holding the lightning bolt is the scatter, and 4, 5, or 6 in view awards 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively. Each extra scatter also adds 5 extra spins. Wilds landing in free spins always trigger the Wild on Wild feature.

In free spins, three new Bonus Win symbols are introduced. Collecting five identical Bronze, Silver, or Gold Bonus Win symbols gets you cash rewards of 10x, 25x, or 500x the bet respectively. When the Bonus is won, the collection meter is reset to zero, so it is possible to win more than one jackpot during the feature. Free spins cannot be retriggered.

Divine Fortune Megaways: Slot Verdict

It’s easy to imagine NetEnt like a kid in a candy shop at the moment with access to the Megaways license. Imagine what it is like having an immense catalogue of hits to consider upgrading. Where to begin? So far they’ve played it pretty safe, choosing two big hits to go under the knife. It would be nice to see them branch off and use their considerable design expertise to push the engine in ways not seen before. Hey, it’s early days, so let’s not knock any timidity prematurely.

That leads us to Divine Fortune Megaways. Another major hit conversion for NetEnt, and one built on the back of a big jackpot. Without it, how does the Megaways version fare? It’s solid for sure, but you have to wonder if it’s going to pull in the same sized crowd. You would assume not. There are those fixed cash prizes during free spins, which can technically be won more than once, though at 500x max it’s a far cry from the crazy wins its more archaic sibling can hit.

Judged solely on its own merits, NetEnt has crafted a well-oiled Megaways slot with a couple of features enthusiast might want to experience. They aren’t new, having been lifted from the older game, yet they can be effective in action. The Wild on Wild is nicely animated, and Falling Wilds suit Megaways’ larger win ways and increased number of symbols on reels. Scoring more than one Bonus during free spins is a nice touch and may potentially lead to significant wins.

All in all, Divine Fortune has made a smooth transition to the larger Megaways format, and the features make an ideal fit. The game has fun moments and is well designed, so it is hard to fault. While it offers fine gaming, it’s not a title to get hugely excited over, even for Megaways advocates. The biggest bugbear for fans is sure to be the severally reduced prize-winning capabilities. Non-jackpot potential is fine, yet Divine Fortune Megaways is bound to lose some of the allure because of it.
