Honey Rush: Slot Overview

What's the deal with Bees and hexagons patterns anyway? Surely, at some point in your life, you must have stared at a honeycomb and contemplated: Why do the cells look like that. Why aren't they shaped like squares, rectangles or triangles? For some mysterious reason, these diligent ant-related insects choose hexagons - with no exception! The geometrical shape of the hexagon is so strongly associated with bees that it would have been unthinkable for Play'n GO to create a slot such as Honey Rush without incorporating them, one way or another. And just to add, the hexagons constructed by bees are not just some sloppy six-sided hexagons - they're perfectly shaped and of equal length.

Well, the answer is simple, after all - nature likes to do things efficiently. You see, the hexagon is only one of three geometrical shapes with equal sides that can fit together on a flat surface without leaving room for gaps. Of these three, the hexagon happens to be the most compact one, requiring the least amount of wax to construct the honeycomb. If you want to learn more about the subject, we suggest you watch BBC's documentary Behind the Beehive.

With the basics already covered, let's dive straight into it! Honey Rush is the title of a highly volatile slot from Play'n GO which is played on a 4-5-6-7-6-5-4 reel formation with tiles in the shape of, you guessed it - hexagons! Playable from 0.20 to €/£100 per spin, it's yet another addition to the studios massively popular collection of grid slots where cluster mechanics are used instead of traditional payline formations. At the core of Honey Rush is the 4-level charge meter which can deliver a healthy dose of sticky wilds with multipliers of up to 3x and add clusters made up of a whopping 37 symbols.

With cartoon-style visuals, a forest serves as the setting for Honey Rush where shades of green dominate the blurry backdrop whilst the hexagon grid appears suspended in the air above a couple of branches that almost seem to shape a natural crest. It looks phenomenal we have to say and awfully inviting. On the reels, the lower-value symbols are represented by 4 different species of flower of which the sunflower is the most lucrative, giving you 20 times your stake for a cluster of 35+. Even more rewarding are the bronze, silver and gold coins along with the diamond which is the top payer here, giving you 50, 100, or 200 times your stake for a cluster of 25+, 30+, or 35+ respectively.

Honey Rush: Slot Features

Honey Rush Theme/Symbols
Visually, Honey Rush has cartoon style graphics and is set amongst a woodland – with the reels in a hexagonal shape to represent a honeycomb cell. You’ll see 4, 5, 6, 7, 6, 5 and 4 symbols in a hexagon formation. Symbols include 4 different flowers, bronze, silver and gold coins as well as a diamond.

There’s also a honey pot wild which substitutes for all symbols. You can form winning combinations by getting 5 or more adjacently connected symbols in a cluster. The diamond is the most lucrative symbol with 35 or more giving you a 200 times stake payout. When you get a win, the winning symbols are removed – new symbols then fall from above to fill the empty spaces – this allows for new wins to be created.

Rush Meter feature
Furthermore, all winning combinations will contribute to the Rush Meter feature – when a charge level is complete, respective features are added to the queue. If the meter is fully charged and no more wins are possible, the next feature in the queue will be triggered. The meter is resent at the end of each spin. Here are details on the 4 charge levels:

Level 1: charged with 20 winning symbols. This triggers the Drone Colony before adding 1 sticky wild symbol to the grid.
Level 2: charged with 40 winning symbols. This activates the Drone Colony before adding 1 sticky wild symbol to the grid.
Level 3: charged with 80 winning symbols. This activates the Drone Colony before adding 1 sticky wild symbol to the grid.
Level 4: charged with 160 winning symbols. This activates the Queen Colony only.

Colony feature
Now, the Colony feature is triggered randomly on non-winning spins or via the Rush Meter feature. Once in action, the symbol is the middle of the grid is chosen and then cloned to create a new winning cluster. There are 3 types of Colony extras to benefit from:

Drone – gives you a cluster of at least 7 symbols
Worker – creates a cluster of between 7 and 15 symbols. This is triggered, at random, on non-winning spins.
Queen – gives you a cluster of between 20 and 37 symbols.

3x multipliers
When it comes to the sticky wild symbol above, it obviously substitutes for all symbols – added via the Rush Meter feature only, it will appear on the second ring of symbols from the outside. It can come with multipliers of 1x, 2x and 3x. When it’s part of a winning cluster, the sticky wild will change position to an empty nearby position before new symbols fall into place. This gives you another chance to win. You can benefit from up to 3 sticky wilds at any one time.

Honey Rush: Slot Verdict
In writing, Honey Rush may seem like a complicated slot but is actually quite straightforward once you get going. Before you start spinning, however, it can be good to know that it's highly volatile, which means you should be prepared for plenty of dry spells in-between the hits. In other words, you will get stung (huh huh). On the flip side, there's a max win of 9,000 times your stake to keep you motivated which is significantly higher than the usual 5000x potential seen in most other high variance slots from Play'n GO.

As many of you know by now, Play'n GO often looks for inspiration from other providers. In this case, it seems like Push Gaming has been their source of inspiration as we see some elements of both Wild Swarm (the theme and meter) and Jammin' Jars (the mobile multiplier wilds). Nonetheless, when it comes to grid slots, that's where Play'n GO excels, and Honey Rush is no exception to the rule. With sweet visuals and excellelent potential, this slot is buzzing with features that are bound to keep players entertained for sessions on end.
