Doom of Egypt: Slot Overview

Cloning slots is nothing new. It's been going on since forever and is a quick and convenient way for providers to release "new" products. Historically speaking, cloned slots are most commonly associated with exclusive releases, and while Play'n GO have been on the forefront of cloning, other established providers such as NetEnt, Pragmatic Play and Yggdrasil Gaming have been known to do the same. You'd think that an operator (casino) would be reluctant to pay extra for a simple clone, especially as players have become more knowledgeable, but apparently not. Rarely, clones can offer an enhanced experience through upgraded visuals, the soundtrack or even the features (without altering the RTP, of course), but in this particular case, Play'n GO have just scraped together some leftovers in the laziest way possible.

Available for play between 0.10 and €£50 per spin, this 5-reel, 10-payline slot titled Doom of Egypt is a mishmash of several Ancient Egyptian themed slots produced by Play'n GO throughout the years. Fundamentally, it's a clone of the iconic Book of Dead slot (the game engine), but visually it borrows from Rise of Dead (which is a clone of Gold King) and Legacy of Egypt. Set inside a pharaon burial chamber and with eerie music playing, symbols on the reels include lower value A to 10 royals as well as three Egyptian kings - Ramses, Thutmose, and Amenhotep. The most rewarding symbols, however, is Anubis, the god of the dead, giving you 500 times your stake for five on a full payline. The scarab beetle, which you may recognize from Legacy of Egypt, is both wild and scatter - five on a payline will give you 200 times your stake.

Doom of Egypt: Slot Features

Book of Dead meets Rise of Dead
Doom of Egypt has an ancient Egyptian theme and looks a lot like Rise of Dead (another Play ‘N Go slot). Set inside an ancient burial chamber, symbols include A, K, Q, J and 10 royals as well as Egyptian pharaohs Ramses, Thutmose and Amenhotep and god of the dead Anubis.

The highest value symbol (Anubis) will reward you with 1, 10, 100 or 500 times your stake for 2, 3, 4 or 5 in combination. The scarab beetle is the wild symbol and comes from Legacy of Egypt (another Play ‘N Go slot game). The wild is also the scatter and pays 2, 20 or 200 times your stake for 3, 4 or 5 on a payline.

Free Spins feature
When 3 or more scarab beetle scatters appear anywhere on the reels, you will activate the Free Spins feature where you start with 10 free spins. Before thee free spins begin, a special expanding symbol is randomly chosen. This symbol will expand to take over the whole reel when part of a winning combination.

For example – let’s say Anubis is the special expanding symbol. If he appears on reels 1, 2 and 4, you will have 3 reels completely showing Anubis. Furthermore, 3 or more scatters will give you 10 more free spins taking your potential tally to 20.

Doom of Egypt: Slot Verdict
As a slot, Doom of Egypt is totally redundant, especially with Book of Dead being available at nearly every casino. Moreover, few players will have any problem whatsoever identifying it as a Book of Dead clone, although newcomers might be led to believe there must be some twist somewhere to the game. So, how do you rate a game like this? On the one hand, it's based on one of the best slots ever made. On the other hand, you're annoyed because it's a shameless clone. And what is there to say about it really? If you want some variation to your Book of Dead slotting action, go right ahead and play it. Otherwise, just carry on as usual and forget about this game.
