Golden Osiris: Slot Overview

Developer Play’n GO returns to the well-trodden lands of Egypt to find inspiration for their exotically themed slot Golden Osiris. This time there is no book in sight; instead, the studio uses the splendid imagery from this ancient land to host a grid slot, an area Play’n GO has a stellar track record in and continues to dominate. There are a ton of Egyptian games, but only a handful drive grid slots. Play’n GO brings their considerable expertise to bear to redress the imbalance.

Golden Osiris has a noticeable crispness that makes the graphics stand out from the get go. Everything is well defined, from the symbols on the large 7x7 grid, to the background image. Okay, it's not exactly a new view, but the hieroglyph rich pillars, as well as the statues and stonework, are all high quality. The result is easy on the eyes and accompanied by some nice animations when tiles drop, cascade, or form clusters. Like the eye candy, the music is pretty standard for an Egyptian slot, yet pleasing all the same.

Alongside the high build quality, another thing you can generally depend on from a Play’n GO grid slot is solid stats. Golden Osiris doesn't disappoint, starting with a default RTP of 96.27%. When it comes to volatility, these games tend to be fairly volatile, although rarely brutally so. In this case, Play'n GO has avoided going too crazy, giving it a volatility score of 7/10. Like many of its siblings, the hit rate is probably relatively high which, in theory at least, means wins should drop on every third or so spin on average.

Golden Osiris provides 9 pay symbols to cluster up, starting with 4 low pay gems coloured green, blue, yellow, and red. Next are 5 premiums, where you'll find birds, cats, Ankhs, jackals, and scarabs - all well represented icons from the Ancient Egyptian era. Premium clusters made up of 15 or more symbols pay out from 8 to 50 times the total stake.

Golden Osiris: Slot Features

It wouldn't be a big, intimidating grid slot without a stack of features, so Play’n GO has filled the game in cascades, hidden wilds, wild multipliers, a Pyramid Charger causing symbol changes, and free spins. At the core of the game play is the cluster pay mechanic where 5 or more matching symbols make up a winning cluster. As usual, they only count if they connect vertically or horizontally

When winners form, the cascade feature is triggered which removes the cluster from the grid so new symbols can fill in the gaps. Cascades keep occurring until no new wins land. Then the next spin can take place.

Cascades lead directly into wilds which do not land organically as regular symbols do. Instead, up to 6 wilds are added to the grid and hidden beneath symbols. If a symbol pops to reveal a wild, it comes into play to join in the action. Wilds may also have a multiplier of x2, x3, x4, x5, x7, or x10 attached to boost wins. If more than one wild is included in a win, only the highest is applied. That point may cause Golden Osiris to lose a little of its allure, yet the game works exceptionally well regardless.

One way Golden Osiris compensates is by the use of the Pyramid Charger feature. This is constantly active throughout the game, requiring 25 winning symbols to fully charge, including wilds. When the Pyramid is full, and all wins have been paid, it arbitrarily opens to pick one symbol. Then, all instances of this type expand by turning an adjacent symbol into the chosen symbol for another win evaluation. The Pyramid is rechargeable, and the first retrigger applies a symbol expansion multiplier of x3. Any subsequent retriggers in the same sequence raise it by 3, up to x30.

<keep an eye out for the Eye of Horus symbol which is the scatter - 3 on the board award 5 free spins. Once in, the Pyramid Charger is fully charged upon each spin. Moreover, the Pyramid Charger chooses only high pay symbols to expand. Scatters continue to pop up so free spins can be retriggered indefinitely.

The last extra is the Second Chance feature which has been put in place to lighten the tease of almost triggering free spins. It activates when exactly two scatters are in view. Symbols sitting around the scatters are destroyed allowing new ones, and maybe, just maybe, the third scatter to land. Second Chances show up only on paid spins.

Golden Osiris: Slot Verdict
Play’n GO has built quite a reputation when it comes to grid slots, having designed some of the most popular titles out there. Golden Osiris manages to hold its head high with the best of them, providing both Egypt and grid slot fans an enjoyable option to fire up. For one, the theme has been deftly handled - looking great at the same time as stepping gracefully aside to allow features to shine.

Golden Osiris shines brightly too and is certainly capable of doing what a great grid slot is meant to. That is, pile on cascade wins, which get increasingly potent the more the game progresses. Key elements are the Pyramid Charger changing symbols working hand in hand with progressive multipliers. Running alongside both are wild multipliers. Bringing it all together means Golden Osiris can crank out wins of up to 12,000 times the bet. One of the highest you'll see from Play’n GO, and quite a sight when a solid roll is underway.

When the dust clears, Golden Osiris is another top quality grid slot from the Play’n GO team. It builds on such a successful and well-proven formula that you just can't go wrong with it. The only criticism worth mentioning is its strong, almost clone-like, similarities to its siblings. Other than that, Golden Osiris has all the right elements to entertain fans of the format. Also, its less than lethal volatility opens its appeal to casual players while retaining interest from the hardest of hardcores. Last of all, Golden Osiris' big potential should prove alluring, adding up to an all-around class act in Egyptology.
