Cash of Command: Slot Overview
Defeat your foes in a war-themed slot called Cash of Command from software provider Play'n GO, a cluster-paying slot from the grid slot veterans which packs several features that are triggered by a symbol collection meter. Its fun factor gets a major boost from a bunch of amusing video game elements which combine to create an intriguing grid slot experience.

Cash of Command takes place in a battle zone that somehow both resembles the sea, sky, and land at the same time. War is a sensitive subject that could be tricky to pull off in a slot, and studios have used several ways of bringing it to the reels. Past options have included the grimly realistic Das xBoot to the heroic recruitment poster approach of 1942 Sky Warrior to the cheerful chocks away vibe Play'n GO has injected into Cash Command. Each angle has its place, and the light-hearted approach works well in Cash Command, being action-packed but not seriously so. The studio has cleverly squeezed in a Battleships board game dimension, personable characters, and plenty of cool effects. These include naval vessels on the board, aeroplane flyovers, bombing raids, and a stirring soundtrack. Cash of Command is partly a top-down video game, the rest an online slot.

On the slotting side of things, we come to the math model, which is highly volatile and comes in a variety of RTP settings, the highest being 96.28% - slightly higher than they usually are from Play'n GO. Available on any device, players can load up stakes of 10 p/c to £/€100 per spin in an attempt to grab some cash and presumably some command.

Played on a 9-column, 9-row game panel, the goal is to land clusters of five or more adjacently matching symbols. Wins trigger the cascade feature, which removes winning clusters from the grid, and lets symbols fall down to fill the gaps. If a new cluster is created from this process, the cascade feature activates again. Symbols are a little difficult to discern at first, but from low to high, they consist of green, brown, blue, purple, and white badges, then badges with gems in blue, green and red colours. Landing a five-symbol cluster of these pays out 0.1 to 1.6 times the stake, while the largest clusters (50+ symbols) are worth 100 to 5,000 times the stake.

We covered Cash of Command's cascade functionality, leaving the Baron's Turrets, Naval Heroes, and Baron Fusco left to go over.

Baron's Turrets
On non-winning spins, there is a chance the Baron's Turrets feature randomly activates. If so, then wild symbols are placed on the reels for another chance to win something. Wilds substitute any pay symbol.

Naval Heroes
As well as triggering the cascade feature, winning symbols are also collected in the meter sitting to the left of the grid. The meter has four levels which are attained when 15, 40, 70, or 110 symbols have been collected, triggering a different effect. The first three are Naval Heroes features, which add a ship or submarine to the grid. These vessels are not wild, nor do they have a value. When cascades end, the achieved Naval Heroes features trigger:

  • Commander Wilder – adds wilds to the grid.
  • Captain Verto – converts two sets of symbols to the same symbol type.
  • Admiral Magna – adds four 2x2 sized mega symbols to the reels.

Baron Fusco
Collecting 110 or more symbols in a single game round awards the Baron Fusco feature. This one removes ships and submarines until there is just one left. Then, the remaining ship or submarine creates a super version of the Naval Hero associated with it:

  • Super Commander Wilder – places more wilds on the grid.
  • Super Captain Verto – converts 3 symbol types into the same symbol type.
  • Super Admiral Magna – places four up to 4x4 sized mega symbols on the board.

Naval Heroes and the Baron Fusco can be triggered once only per game round.

Cash of Command: Slot Verdict
As they say, war is hell; let's not downplay reality, but presented in a cartoonish manner in an online slot, it can actually be a load of fun. Cash of Command certainly has its moments and is an excellent example of how details count. The game might have been a lot more average if Play'n GO hadn't laboured over each part of Cash of Command, getting them just so. From the painted teeth on the planes to the lobbed bombs to the towering soundtrack, everything fits together to create a thoroughly professional final product.

The gameplay is good too but might not suit players who prefer a clear distinction between base and bonus round. Cash of Command isn't like that. It's a little similar to Lordi Reel Monsters in some ways, though even Lordi dangled 1 free spin for players who went all the way. Here it's a simple case of piling on cascading clusters to reach the Baron Fusco section and hope for a colossal result from whichever Super Version of the Naval Heroes feature is awarded. Commander Wilder and his smattering of wilds may or may not assist with building bigger clusters, though Captain Verto's symbol transformations and Admiral Magna's mega symbols could get pretty interesting. You might not actually need the extra features since the values of the game's upper-tier symbols might be enough to produce something special when enough of them hit on their own.

Cash of Command is a slot that you kind of have to see in action to really give it justice. It looks decent in screenshots, but you miss all of those neat animations, fleshing out the game. The same goes for features, which sound pretty standard on paper – added wilds, big symbols, or symbol transformations, yet when combined with the video game charm, contribute to creating another highly playable grid slot from one of the maestros of the genre.
