Cash Compass: Overview
Hacksaw Gaming, a cunning developer, has released a new installment in the Pocketz series. In the cute-looking game Cash Compass, they chose a grid slot format this time. Pocketz slots are aesthetically straightforward and place a greater emphasis on enjoyment than showy effects because they were created specifically for people who play online casino games on mobile phones. If you've ever played one, Cash Compass will be immediately recognizable to you as a Pocketz slot. This is true of its appearance, peculiarities, and fluid gameplay.

Compared to other characters in the series, Cash Compass may have more personality. It's actually the most graphically dense so far, albeit that doesn't really mean much. Big graphics and aggressive action are not what define Pocketz. Cash Compass is another excellent example of this kind of relaxed, low-key gaming. The 6x6 grid is situated on a deserted island in the Caribbean Sea, one of the sunniest places on earth. There are only palm trees, beach, the sea, warm air, and tons of parrots. It's a place that's just as good for spinning reels as it is for social isolation.

Playable from 20 p/c to £/€100 per spin, Cash Compass is a medium variance slot offering a solid RTP of 96.42%. Each spin sees 36 symbols tumble into the grid. The goal is to land clusters of 6 or more similar symbols, connecting vertically or horizontally for a win. When this happens, you might be expecting some sort of cascade feature, but Hacksaw chose not to use that option. Instead, wins hit, then it's on to the next spin.

The symbols used in the game are a ragtag bunch of island and non-island related icons. On the low side are J-A symbols, followed by maps, shields, potion bottles, and parrots. The max cluster size for these symbols is 15+, which pay out 10 – 130 times the stake. By far the most lucrative symbol is the compass which pays out 1,000 times the stake for a cluster of 30 or more. Due to the way features work, it is possible to build up significant clusters of compasses.

Cash Compass: Features

It's not all lying on the beach watching symbols tumble in, there are also three features to look out for. These are the Compass feature, Free Spins, and the Bonus Wheel.

The Compass feature is available during the main game and free spins. During the base game, 5 or more compass symbols in view cause the actual compass on the logo to spin. When it stops spinning, the compass symbols on the grid multiply and spread in the direction that the needle points to. Regular wins are paid before this feature is triggered.

If 3 scatter symbols land anywhere in view, then 10 free spins are awarded. In free spins mode, extra compass symbols are added, and every time at least one lands, the compass feature is triggered.

Chests mean only one thing in slots – treasure. To unlock the bonus game, players are required to land 3 chest symbols. This game consists of a spinning bonus wheel divided into 8 sections. Every time the wheel stops on a section, the multiplier displayed is added to the total, and that specific multiplier is increased to the next level. The wheel spins a maximum of 50 times, or until it lands on the skull section, ending the feature. The multipliers start at 1x and can increase in increments of 10x, 25x, 100x, and lastly 250x.

Cash Compass: Verdict

Cash Compass is another fun wee game from Hacksaw Gaming. Then again, it's not actually all that wee at all, though it may come across as a bit of lightweight at first - especially if you haven’t played anything in the Pocketz series yet. However, like others in the series, Cash Compass has a nice flow that makes it hard to put down. It also packs a surprising amount of potential –possibly more than you might be expecting.

Thanks to the atmosphere and easy gaming, Cash Compass nestles comfortably into the Pocketz series. Hacksaw has done a great job of creating a range of slots that accomplish exactly what they set out to. Namely, provide simple games that punters can unwind with after a hard day's work. Or, just as likely, on the way to or from work.

They are ideal for players who like Candy Crush style apps but appreciate a bit of edge and reward. Rewards are definitely here. So far Cash Compass is the highest paying slot of the bunch, to the tune of 7,400 times the stake. Max wins are possible during the elusive Bonus Game where multipliers can seriously stack up.

Cash Compass is also an ever so slight move away from the series' minimalist roots. As long as Hacksaw keep up the simple, easy-going nature, that won't be an issue. Cash Compass certainly has that. The gameplay is basic, but fun, though it can take time to warm to.

During testing, the low-value clusters led to a whole lot of nothing going on for a while hampered by the absence of any cascade mechanic. However, the action picked up after a while. Initially via the Compass feature which pops up fairly frequently to add tension.

Secondly, the features were quite fun too. The first time free spins were triggered, a large number of parrots were dumped on the grid for the final spin. That provided a 130x hit on top of the rest of the wins from the feature. Not quite 7,400x, but tidy all the same.

To sum up, Cash Compass is another nicely playable slot in the Pocketz series. Hacksaw has done well to stay true to the spirit of the range while offering quite different gaming experiences each time. It doesn't have the oddly compelling x-factor of Cubes, but is an enjoyable title nonetheless.
